Kampala, Uganda: Kampala Woman Member of Parliament, Hon Shamim Malende, has confirmed her breakup with her husband, Shamil Ssebunya, accusing him of seizing her assets, including vehicles and social media accounts, and subjecting her to constant intimidation.

In a video message released on Friday, Malende explained her recent absence from social media, revealing that her official blue-ticked Facebook page with over 250,000 followers, alongside a newly created account, had been taken over.

The NUP woman legislator further claimed that two of her vehicles, a Toyota Harrier (UBK 862) and a Toyota Super Custom (UBD 850N), had also been confiscated.

Malende described her ordeal as “deeply depressing,” adding that she felt her life was in danger.
“I am living in captivity. My life is under threat because of constant intimidation,” she said, appealing to Ugandans to pray for her.

While withholding certain details “out of dignity as a Muganda woman,” Hon Malende issued a public caution against those associating with her estranged husband.

“I now inform the country and people of Kampala that whoever is working with my now former husband, you do so at your own risk. I have nothing to do with him. We have gone our separate ways,” she declared.

The MP added that, as a leader, she was compelled to speak out and called upon Ugandans with expertise in digital platforms to help her recover her seized social media pages.

Malende’s public revelations have sparked widespread reactions, with many Ugandans expressing sympathy and calling for authorities to intervene in what is increasingly becoming a high-profile domestic dispute.
