Kampala, Uganda: Airtel Uganda Advocate, Mr Muhwezi Ronald Tharry, on Thursday drove out in a brand-new Mercedes-Benz he won at last month’s Radical New Bar Digital Transformation Festival organized by the ULS (Uganda Law Society) under the stewardship of President Isaac Ssemakadde.
The brand new Mercedes-Benz was awarded as part of the Radical New Bar’s #BangTheBenz promotion, aimed at motivating legal professionals to embrace digital transformation.
Maj. (Rtd) Gertrude Njuba, a veteran politician and widow of the late Rule of Law champion Sam Kalega Njuba, SC, officially handed over the car to Muhwezi, who received it alongside family, colleagues, and friends at the launch of the 16th Rule of Law Week, scheduled for 15th to 19th September 2025, at Uganda Law Society Headquarters in Kololo, Kampala.

“This isn’t a dream, it’s pure reality! I’m deeply thankful to the Radical New Bar, President Isaac Ssemakadde, Vice President Asiimwe Anthony, and the entire organizing committee. I encourage all members of the Bar to participate in such transformative initiatives,” Muhwezi said during the handover.

In her remarks, Mrs. Njuba urged professionals, particularly those from the legal fraternity, to actively participate in politics, emphasizing the dangers of leaving leadership to others.
“I see many lawyers here, yet often those capable of holding the country together shy away from politics. If you step aside, power falls into the hands of hooligans, and the rule of law cannot prevail under their leadership,” she stated during the 16th Rule of Law Week at the Uganda Law Society (ULS) headquarters in Kololo.
She noted that Uganda’s 1995 Constitution vests significant power in politicians, meaning that if principled citizens avoid political engagement, others will dominate decision-making spaces. “Don’t think politics is inherently dirty — it only becomes so when we allow the wrong people in. If the right people participate, it can be a clean game,” she added.
Reflecting on the role of lawyers and law students, she warned: “We often overlook this group in boardrooms. I look at the streets and wonder: are we going to hand over power to the wrong people? That thought reminds me that we must remain engaged and vigilant.”

ULS Treasurer Isiko Arthur highlighted that the #BangTheBenz initiative symbolizes more than just a car; it represents the push for digital transformation within Uganda’s legal sector. “This promotion has helped us reach members who are technophobic and showcase the importance of embracing digital tools for legal practice,” he said.
Other winners of the night included Retired High Court Judge Henry Peter Adonyo was honored with a lifetime Achievement Award for championing digital transformation of the judiciary, and UBC TV Journalist, Ms Deborah Namamonde, who received the Digital Excellence Award on behalf of the Uganda Court Reporters Association (UCRA).
