Buyende, Uganda: Buyende District Woman MP flag bearer Sarah Hassan Kitambala Namulondo cemented her position on Monday after clinching victory for the second time, following a tribunal-ordered re-election in 56 villages across Budiope West and Budiope East constituencies.
Namulondo was first declared the winner in the NRM primaries held on July 17, 2025, after securing 80,685 votes (49.4%) against incumbent Nakato Mary Annet’s 57,394 votes (35.3%) and challenger Achom Robinah’s 24,952 votes (15.0%).
However, Achom petitioned the NRM Tribunal, alleging vote rigging in Nkondo Sub-County, Kidera Town Council, Bukungu Town Council, and Buyanja Sub-County. After a thorough review, the tribunal annulled the results in 56 affected villages and ordered a repeat exercise under the supervision of the NRM Electoral Commission.
The re-run, held on Monday, September 08, presided over by Mr. Twatsinze Mechack on behalf of NRM EC chairperson Dr. Tanga Odoi, reaffirmed Namulondo’s dominance as she polled 86,580 votes (51.2%), widening her lead over incumbent Nakato Mary Annet, who scored 57,527 votes (34.0%), while Achom Robinah, the petitioner, trailed with 24,991 votes (14.7%).
“The exercise was good, voters lined behind their candidates. I now appeal to all voters and those who lost in primaries to rally behind NRM flag bearers in the coming elections,” Twatsinze said.
In her victory speech, Namulondo thanked her supporters and vowed to uphold the NRM manifesto: “I thank everybody who stood for me. I ask all voters to continue voting for NRM, and I promise that I will keep the NRM manifesto.”
The Buyende Woman MP seat will now be contested again in the general elections, with Namulondo set to face off with Nakato Mary Annet and Achom Robinah, both of whom have vowed to return to the race as independents.
