Jinja City, Uganda: The Kyabazinga of Busoga, His Majesty William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV, has welcomed the partnership with State House aimed at promoting modern post-harvest handling skills and establishing a leadership school for children to nurture future leaders in Busoga.

A high-level State House delegation led by Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Duties David Kenneth Mafabi and Special Presidential Assistant Nabirye Barbra Nana met the Kyabazinga at Igenge Palace in Bugembe, Jinja City, where they presented two proposals aimed at tackling post-harvest losses and fostering youth leadership development.

Mafabi revealed that farmers in Busoga lose up to 70% of their produce due to poor handling and lack of processing facilities. He emphasized the need for a Post-Harvest Service Law Center to support the government’s Parish Development Model (PDM) and enhance agricultural value addition. “We need to ensure proper packaging and transportation to prevent food loss and enable exports,”

Nabirye noted, stressing the importance of quality and quantity in agricultural production as a foundation for wealth creation. She also presented her educational books designed for children under 10 years, aimed at teaching wealth creation, entrepreneurship, and essential life skills to cultivate a culture of self-reliance among the youth.

The second proposal sought the establishment of a leadership school for children aged 8 to 18, offering a specialized curriculum to nurture Busoga’s future leaders with a strong foundation in cultural values and economic innovation. Mafabi said the school would blend academic learning with mentorship and leadership training.

Welcoming the initiative, the Kyabazinga described the proposals as “timely and transformative,” urging the team to submit detailed concept papers for implementation.

“These are very good initiatives. We need value addition and leadership development to move Busoga forward,” he remarked, highlighting the need to integrate modern technology like Zoom to expand learning and outreach opportunities.

He commended Mafabi and Nabirye for their commitment to Busoga’s progress, noting that the partnership symbolized the Kingdom’s growing cooperation with State House in driving community-based development.

The meeting was attended by Busoga chiefs from all 11 chiefdoms, led by Issabalangira of Busoga Samuel Nkuutu Zirabamuzale, Busoga Kingdom Permanent Secretary Godfrey Samanya Ssajabi, Finance Minister Owek. Ivan Kiirya, and members of the Royal Family.
