Oyam, Uganda: The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) presidential candidate and incumbent President, H.E. Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, is set to resume his 2026 campaign trail on Tuesday with major rallies lined up in Oyam District in the Lango subregion and later in Pakwach District in the West Nile region.

The President, who had temporarily paused his campaign engagements late last week to attend to state duties in Kampala, is expected to reignite his message of continuity and socio-economic transformation under the NRM’s 2026 theme “Securing Your Future.”

The NRM campaign team says the northern stretch of the campaign trail will focus on consolidating support in regions that have benefited from NRM’s flagship development programs, including the Parish Development Model (PDM), Emyooga, and the ongoing road and energy infrastructure projects.

Speaking to DailyExpress on Monday, NRM Secretariat officials said President Museveni’s resumption signifies the party’s confidence and readiness to engage every region as campaigns intensify.

“The President is returning to the field with renewed vigor. The people of Oyam and Pakwach have witnessed tangible transformation in agriculture, electricity connectivity, and social services. His message will center on sustaining these gains and deepening wealth creation,” said Ms Rosemary Sseninde, the ruling party’s director for mobilization.

She added that the northern belt remains strategic to the NRM’s campaign machinery, as it reflects stability and recovery from years of insurgency through government-led programs. “The Lango and West Nile regions have been a focus for post-war reconstruction, and the President’s continued engagement demonstrates his personal commitment to ensuring no region is left behind.”

Local NRM leaders in Oyam have already mobilized thousands of supporters for the Tuesday rally at Oyam Town Council grounds. Oyam District NRM Chairperson, Bosco Onyik Ogwal, told DailyExpress that residents are eager to interact with the President and reaffirm their loyalty to the ruling party.

“People here know what the NRM government has done, from improving health centers to youth livelihood programs. The President’s visit will be a celebration of these successes,” Onyik said.

In Pakwach, preparations are equally underway with district leaders confirming that security, logistics, and mobilization plans are complete. Jackson Atima, the West Nile region whip, said the NRM’s strong performance in previous elections in West Nile is evidence of the people’s trust in Museveni’s leadership.

“The President’s development agenda has reached our people through improved roads, fishery support, and tourism development along the Nile. His return to West Nile is both symbolic and strategic,” Atima noted.

Museveni’s campaign is expected to proceed to other districts in Acholi and West Nile after the Oyam and Pakwach engagements as part of the NRM’s northern mobilization calendar.
