Parents Urged to Take Active Role in Candidates’ Blessing Ceremonies

Grace Community Primary School Headteacher, Mr Aloysius Lubega, addresses Primary Seven candidates during a blessing and dedication service on Saturday, October 25, 2025.

Gomba, Uganda: Parents with children sitting for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE) have been urged to actively participate in school blessing and dedication ceremonies, which are vital in shaping learners’ confidence and spiritual growth.

The call was made by Mr Alloysius Lubega, Head Teacher of Grace Community Primary School in Gomba District, during the school’s candidates’ dedication service held on Saturday, where parents, teachers, and church leaders gathered to pray for the Primary Seven pupils ahead of their final exams.

Lubega emphasized that parental involvement in such ceremonies builds stronger moral and academic foundations for learners and bridges the gap between home and school.

“Many parents miss school visits and blessings, thinking they’re only called for fee balances,” Lubega said. “Paying fees is an obligation, but visitation and participation in blessings are about emotional support, guidance, and partnership in raising disciplined children.”

He applauded parents who turned up in large numbers, saying that “leaving children entirely in the hands of teachers is incomplete parenting.”

Bishop Morris Bukenya of Eden Revival Ministries, who presided over the dedication, encouraged both parents and candidates to keep God at the center of their education journey.

“In everything we do, God must come first,” Bishop Bukenya said. “A primary course is the longest in Uganda’s education system, lasting over seven years — longer than some university programs. Completing it requires heart, patience, and the involvement of parents.”

The Bishop, who also doubles as the proprietor of Grace Community School, said the institution’s Christian foundation has helped nurture morally upright and academically strong learners.

“Moral decay in society is growing because many parents, especially men, have abandoned the spiritual upbringing of their children, leaving it to women. A child becomes complete when both parents are actively involved spiritually,” he noted.

The school registered 48 candidates for the 2025 PLE exams and expressed confidence that all would pass, noting that private schools like Grace Community were not affected by the recent teachers’ industrial action.

Mrs Lydia Kongai Okwakol, a parent from Bukedea District, said she was impressed by the school’s environment and academic excellence. “I don’t regret bringing my children here. Their performance has improved greatly, and the environment is conducive for concentration,” Kongai said. “Even our youngest child in Primary Two can now speak and write Luganda fluently.”

Another parent, Mr Sam Semakula, commended teachers for their dedication and professionalism. “Children spend more time with teachers than parents. If we don’t appreciate teachers’ work, the real beneficiaries, our children, will lose out,” Semakula said.

Teachers Emphasize Talent Development

Mr. Peter Agama, one of the teachers, told Daily Express that Grace Community Primary School emphasizes both academics and co-curricular activities. “We encourage creativity and help children discover their hidden talents through crafts and practical learning,” Agama said.

The Director of Studies, Mr. Ibrahim Mubiru, confirmed that the school has recorded steady academic improvement over the years due to teamwork and a clear vision. “Here, education has value for money. Teachers are motivated and committed because they understand the mission and objectives of the school,” Mubiru said.
