Kamuli, Uganda: Police in Kamuli District have launched a manhunt for a 37-year-old woman accused of brutally burning her 8-year-old stepson over allegations of stealing cooked mudfish.
The suspect, identified as Perusi, is currently on the run following the disturbing incident that has left the child hospitalized and fighting for his life.
The victim is receiving treatment at Kagumba Health Centre III, where he was rushed with severe burns, particularly on his hands.
The boy’s father, Mr Mwiru Steven, confirmed the incident and expressed deep concern over his son’s condition. “My son was burned on the hands, and I am worried about his safety,” he said.
According to preliminary accounts, the alleged attack followed accusations that the child had taken cooked mudfish—triggering a violent reaction from the stepmother.

The incident has sparked outrage among residents of Nambale LC, where the attack occurred.
Mr Isabirye Tomas, a local resident, condemned the act and called for swift justice. “This is a very sad incident, and we condemn it in the strongest terms. We urge police to apprehend the suspect and ensure she faces the law,” he said.
Police have since confirmed that efforts are underway to track down the suspect, who is also alleged to have acted with the involvement of her mother-in-law.
Authorities are appealing to the public for any information that could lead to her arrest.
The case adds to growing concerns over child abuse and domestic violence incidents in communities, with leaders urging stronger protection mechanisms for children.
