Kampala, Uganda: Victoria University Kampala has partnered with the Uganda Blood Transfusion Service to host a blood donation drive aimed at strengthening the country’s blood reserves and saving lives.
The exercise is scheduled for this Friday, April 24, 2026, at the university premises from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., targeting students, staff, and members of the public.
VU Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Lawrence Muganga, has urged eligible Ugandans to take part in the initiative. “Saving a life is a shared responsibility. I urge everyone who is eligible to come forward and donate. One small act can make a very big difference to someone in need,” he said.
The VU Blood Donation drive is being held under the theme: “Saving a Life, A Shared Responsibility, A Drop for Hope,” reflecting the institution’s commitment to community impact and healthcare support.
The initiative comes at a time when health facilities across Uganda continue to depend heavily on voluntary donors to meet rising demand for blood, especially in emergencies, surgeries, and treatment of chronic illnesses.

Medical experts note that a single unit of donated blood can save multiple lives, making such drives critical to sustaining the national blood supply.
Organisers say the event will also feature awareness campaigns to educate participants on the importance of regular blood donation and maintaining a stable supply.
The university has, in recent years, strengthened its reputation for community outreach and humanitarian initiatives.
Recently, VU partnered with the Ruparelia Foundation during the Rajiv Ruparelia Eye Camp in Bukedea, where thousands received free eye care services.
Officials expressed optimism that the blood donation drive will attract strong participation and inspire a culture of giving, particularly among young people.
