Kikuube, Uganda: The Uganda Electoral Commission has rescheduled the Kikuube District Chairperson by-election, shifting polling day from June 10 to Thursday, June 18, 2026.
The announcement was made in a press release dated May 5 and signed by EC Chairperson Simon Byabakama.
According to Byabakama, the adjustment followed feedback received during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the Kikuube District Headquarters on April 27.
He said the new polling date is intended to allow better preparation and broader participation in the electoral process. “The election, previously set for Wednesday, 10th June 2026, will now take place on Thursday, 18th June 2026,” Byabakama stated.
The by-election follows the death of former Kikuube District Chairperson Peter Banura Araali, who died in an accident on April 4, 2026.
At the time of his death, Araali had already been elected district chairperson.
Justice Byabakama said the EC remains committed to organizing a smooth and inclusive electoral process. “The Commission urges all stakeholders and members of the public to take note of the revised date and participate in accordance with the updated schedule,” he noted.
Political Parties Begin Mobilisation
The rescheduling comes as political parties intensify mobilisation ahead of the vote.
Forum for Democratic Change President Patrick Amuriat Oboi announced during a press conference at Najjanankumbi that the party intends to field a candidate in the by-election.
Amuriat also urged FDC supporters to actively participate in upcoming village chairperson elections across the country.
The EC has encouraged residents of Kikuube to remain engaged in the process as preparations continue under the revised roadmap.
