Kampala, Uganda: The Indian Association Uganda has congratulated President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni upon his inauguration for a seventh term in office, pledging continued investment, philanthropy and support towards Uganda’s socio-economic transformation under his leadership.
In a congratulatory message released Tuesday as Museveni was sworn in for the 2026–2031 term, the association, led by Dharmesh Patel, the Chairman Board of Trustees, hailed the President and the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) for what it described as continued leadership that has fostered stability, investment growth and economic opportunities in Uganda.
“On behalf of the Board of Trustees, Executive Committee and the entire diaspora, we congratulate H.E Yoweri Kaguta Museveni and the NRM on the occasion of swearing in as the President of the Republic of Uganda,” the statement read.
The Indian Community said Museveni’s leadership had created a conducive environment for business growth and investment, enabling members of the Indian community to contribute to Uganda’s economy through commerce, employment creation and charitable initiatives.
“Under your able leadership, Indian Association shall continue to help and foster investment in the country to provide employment opportunities,” the association stated.
The message also highlighted the Indian community’s continued involvement in humanitarian and medical outreach programmes across Uganda, particularly initiatives supporting vulnerable communities and children requiring specialized healthcare.
“We are sure with your guidance and support our philanthropic activities shall further help uplift the less fortunate of Uganda, who need love and care, with medical assistance in particular infants with congenital heart disease, blood donation and medical camps,” the statement added.

The Indian community remains one of Uganda’s most influential foreign investor groups, with significant interests in manufacturing, banking, hospitality, real estate, trade, education and health sectors.
Among the notable signatories and leaders featured in the congratulatory message alongside Board Chairman Dharmesh Patel was businessman Dr Sudhir Ruparelia, one of Uganda’s leading investors and philanthropists, who has, over the years, expanded investments across multiple sectors through the Ruparelia Group, employing thousands of Ugandans and supporting several social causes.
The Indian Association’s message comes as Museveni officially commenced another five-year term after taking oath at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds before regional leaders, diplomats and invited guests from across Africa and beyond.
During his inauguration speech, Museveni called for a “Kisanja of No More Sleep,” urging Ugandans to focus on wealth creation, industrialisation, value addition and economic transformation.
Uganda and India have historically maintained close bilateral relations dating back decades, with India remaining among Uganda’s top trading and investment partners.
