Sironko, Uganda: Sironko District Woman Member of Parliament Hon. Mafabi Asha Nabulo has launched a safe water project in Nalugugu Parish, Bukiise Sub-county, aimed at improving access to clean and safe water for hundreds of residents in one of the district’s most densely populated areas.

The project, implemented in partnership with the Nile Humanitarian Development Agency, was officially launched on Friday, June 19. Hon. Nabulo was represented at the event by her Political Assistant, Mr. Gimei Clyan.

Bukiise Sub-county has for years faced challenges related to inadequate access to safe water, forcing many residents to rely on limited and often overstretched water sources. The newly commissioned boreholes are expected to ease pressure on existing facilities and improve access to safe water for households across the area.

Speaking on behalf of the legislator, Mr. Gimei said the intervention reflects Hon. Nabulo’s commitment to improving the welfare of communities through practical development initiatives that address basic needs.

Residents welcomed the project, noting that access to clean water remains one of the most pressing challenges affecting livelihoods, sanitation and public health in the area.

In a related development, Hon. Nabulo has also been appointed Chairperson of the Sironko District Roads Committee, a position previously held by her predecessor, former Woman MP Florence Nambozo Wamala.

Hon Mafabi Asha pledged to improve road infrastructure after being appointed Chairperson of the District Roads Committee.

The appointment places the legislator at the forefront of efforts to oversee road maintenance and infrastructure development in a district known for its challenging mountainous terrain and poor road network.

Through her representatives, Hon. Nabulo pledged to work closely with district leaders, technical teams, and stakeholders to improve road connectivity across Sironko.

She said improving the district’s road infrastructure will be critical in enhancing access to markets, health services, schools, and other essential services that support socio-economic transformation.

Sironko is among the districts in the Bugisu Sub-region where difficult terrain has continued to hamper transportation and service delivery, particularly during rainy seasons when many roads become impassable.

Local leaders expressed optimism that the combination of improved access to safe water and enhanced road infrastructure will contribute significantly to improving the quality of life and economic opportunities for residents.
