New UETCL transformers to boost power supply for EACOP, Albertine Industries

Once installed and commissioned, the transformers are expected to provide electricity infrastructure for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), petrochemical industries and other industrial facilities planned within the oil-rich region.

Three newly delivered 80MVA transformers destined for the Kabalega Substation at Hoima Industrial Park. The equipment will support EACOP, petrochemical industries and other strategic investments in the Albertine region.

Hoima, Uganda: The Uganda Electricity Transmission Company Limited (UETCL) has received three high-capacity 80MVA transformers destined for the Kabalega Substation at Hoima Industrial Park, marking a major step in strengthening power infrastructure to support Uganda’s growing industrial and petroleum sectors.

According to UETCL, the transformers will play a critical role in enhancing electricity reliability and transmission capacity for strategic investments within the Albertine region.

In a statement issued on Friday, June 19, the power utility described the delivery as a significant milestone in Uganda’s efforts to build a robust electricity network capable of supporting large-scale industrialisation projects.

“A major milestone in strengthening Uganda’s industrial power infrastructure. UETCL has received three 80MVA transformers destined for the Kabalega Substation at the Hoima Industrial Park,” the country’s lead power transmitter said.

UETCL noted that the equipment will strengthen the backbone of the country’s transmission network and provide the capacity required to support key national projects. “These critical assets will enhance power reliability and capacity to support strategic national investments in the Albertine region.”

Once installed and commissioned, the transformers are expected to provide electricity infrastructure for the East African Crude Oil Pipeline (EACOP), petrochemical industries and other industrial facilities planned within the oil-rich region.

The Kabalega Industrial Park is one of the flagship infrastructure projects supporting Uganda’s oil and gas sector and broader industrialisation agenda. The park is expected to host a range of petroleum-related industries, manufacturing facilities and value-addition enterprises linked to the country’s commercial oil production plans.

The arrival of the transformers comes as government continues to invest heavily in energy transmission infrastructure aimed at ensuring adequate and reliable power supply for industrial consumers.

UETCL said the project aligns with Uganda’s long-term goals of achieving energy security, attracting investment and accelerating economic transformation through industrial development.

The Albertine region remains central to Uganda’s oil and gas ambitions, with ongoing investments in EACOP, the Tilenga and Kingfisher oil projects, refinery plans and supporting industrial infrastructure expected to drive demand for stable and high-capacity electricity supply.
