Two security guards injured in accidental shooting in Kamuli

According to Busoga North Police Region Spokesperson, Mr Samson Lubega, the incident occurred at around 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2026, while a security guard was reportedly carrying out firearm safety procedures.

Kamuli, Uganda: Police in Kamuli Municipality have launched investigations into an accidental shooting incident that left two private security guards injured at the offices of Blue Light Guards (U) Limited in Bunangwe Zone, Northern Division.

According to Busoga North Police Region Spokesperson, Mr Samson Lubega, the incident occurred at around 7:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 19, 2026, while a security guard was reportedly carrying out firearm safety procedures.

Police identified the officer as Batanda Anthony, 23, who was handling a firearm when it accidentally discharged, striking two of his colleagues.

The injured guards were identified as Kabili Denis, 20, who sustained injuries to the toe of his left foot, and Mugolo Hussein, 50, who suffered injuries to his left leg.

The victims were immediately rushed to Kamuli General Hospital for treatment and are currently receiving medical care.

Police have since opened a case of unlawful wounding as investigators work to establish the circumstances under which the firearm discharged.

Mr Lubega reminded all licensed firearm holders and private security personnel to strictly observe firearm handling and safety procedures at all times.

“The Police reminds all licensed firearm holders and security personnel to strictly adhere to firearm handling and safety procedures at all times to prevent accidental injuries and loss of life,” he said.

Authorities said further details will be released as investigations continue.
