Kampala, Uganda: President Museveni has granted an official burial to the late Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali, the former Second Deputy Prime Minister and Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County, the Minister for the Presidency, Hon. Babirye Milly Babalanda, has announced.
In a statement issued on Sunday, July 19, Babalanda described the late Gen. Ali as a distinguished patriot whose decades of public service earned him national recognition.
“Dear friends, I wish to inform you all that the President of the Republic of Uganda, H.E. Gen. (Rtd) Yoweri Kaguta Museveni, has granted an official burial to the fallen Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County, Adjumani District, a distinguished patriot, elder statesman, and former Second Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Uganda, Gen. (Rtd) Hon. Moses Ali,” Babalanda said.
The Presidency Minister revealed that the National Organising Committee (NOC) had already begun engagements with the family to coordinate arrangements for an official send-off.
She also conveyed condolences to President Museveni, the bereaved family, the people of Adjumani District, government colleagues, and all Ugandans mourning the veteran leader.
“May the Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Jannatul Firdaus, comfort his family and loved ones during this difficult time. Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. May his soul rest in eternal peace,” Babalanda said.
A Lifetime of Public Service
Gen. (Rtd) Moses Ali served Uganda for several decades in both military and civilian leadership.
Over the course of his career, he held a number of senior government positions, including Cabinet minister, Member of Parliament for Adjumani West County, and Second Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Leader of Government Business in Parliament.
He was widely regarded as one of Uganda’s longest-serving political and military leaders and was recognised for his contributions to national unity, governance and development.
Gen. Ali died on Saturday at Nakasero Hospital in Kampala at the age of 87, after receiving treatment for several days. He will be buried on Wednesday, July 22, 2026, according to a tentative programme in Adjumani.
