Kamuli, Uganda: Kamuli General Hospital has received medical equipment worth Shs100 million in a government intervention aimed at strengthening healthcare delivery and easing pressure on the facility’s growing patient population.
The equipment, jointly donated by First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East African Community Affairs Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga and the Ministry of Health, was officially handed over on Thursday, July 30, 2026, during a ceremony attended by the Resident District Commissioner (RDC), Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), District Health Officer (DHO), Medical Superintendent and other district officials.
The consignment includes 30 hospital beds, 30 mattresses, 30 blankets, 30 bedsheets, 10 examination beds, three delivery beds, four sterilizer machines, and a floor-mounted digital X-ray machine expected to significantly improve diagnostic services at the hospital.
Speaking during the handover, Kadaga said the donation forms part of ongoing government efforts to improve healthcare services in Kamuli District and the wider Busoga sub-region.
“We want to improve the healthcare services to the people. We will strengthen the hospital by building more buildings for the maternity ward because of the overcrowding,” Kadaga said.
She urged health workers to ensure the equipment is properly utilised to improve patient care.
“I urge you to make good use of the equipment you have received and give better services to the people,” she added.
The Ministry of Health said Kamuli General Hospital is among several public health facilities benefiting from the government’s nationwide programme to strengthen medical infrastructure.
Assistant Commissioner for Biomedical and Electromechanical Engineering Eng. Tadeo Byabagambi said the ministry remains committed to equipping hospitals with modern medical equipment to improve healthcare outcomes.
“As the Ministry of Health we have delivered a number of equipment to Kamuli General Hospital as we have done to other hospitals across the country. Kamuli General Hospital is one of the beneficiaries,” Byabagambi said.
He revealed that all the equipment comes with a two-year warranty covering both preventive and corrective maintenance.
“We ask the hospital to improve sustainability through routine maintenance and timely response from biomedical engineers,” he said.
Kamuli General Hospital Medical Superintendent Dr. Lazarus Butenye welcomed the donation, describing it as a major boost to healthcare services in the district.
“We thank the government through the Ministry of Health for these equipment, and Rt. Hon. Kadaga for her efforts,” Dr. Butenye said.
He encouraged residents to seek treatment at the hospital, noting that the newly acquired equipment would improve service delivery and reduce referrals to other health facilities.
However, Dr. Butenye said the hospital still requires additional investment, particularly the construction of an incinerator and procurement of more specialised medical equipment to meet increasing demand.
District leaders said the new hospital beds, delivery beds and digital X-ray machine are expected to ease congestion, particularly in the maternity and outpatient departments, while enhancing the hospital’s capacity to provide quality healthcare services closer to the community.
The latest donation adds to ongoing government investments aimed at strengthening regional referral and general hospitals through improved infrastructure, medical equipment and expanded access to quality healthcare.
