Kampala, Uganda: The Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, has appointed Brig Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru as the Acting Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC), promoting him to the acting rank of Major General with immediate effect.
The appointment, announced on Monday, August 3, also marks a leadership transition within the elite UPDF unit, with Acting Maj Gen Nyakikuru replacing Maj Gen David Mugisha.
According to the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF), Maj Gen Mugisha will begin preparations to attend the National Defence College (NDC) abroad in the coming months as part of his strategic security studies.
“The Chief of Defence Forces UPDF and Senior Presidential Advisor for Special Operations (SPA/SO), Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba has appointed Brig Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru the acting Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC). Brig Gen Nyakikuru is also granted the acting rank of Major General,” the UPDF said in a statement.
The military said the appointment and promotion take immediate effect.
The UPDF commended Maj Gen David Mugisha for what it described as an outstanding tour of duty at the helm of the Special Forces Command and wished him success in his forthcoming studies.
The force also congratulated Acting Maj Gen Asaph Mweteise Nyakikuru on his appointment and promotion, expressing confidence in his leadership as he assumes command of the country’s elite special operations force.
The Special Forces Command is responsible for protecting the President and First Family, securing key national installations, and undertaking specialised military operations.
