Nairobi, Kenya: Uganda Cranes striker Denis Omedi has completed a transfer to Kenyan champions Gor Mahia FC from Rwandan champions APR FC ahead of the 2026/27 season.
The 30-year-old forward joins one of East Africa’s most decorated clubs as Gor Mahia strengthen their squad for the Kenyan Premier League, FKF Cup, CECAFA Kagame Cup and CAF Champions League campaigns.
Speaking after completing the move, Omedi said the high expectations at Gor Mahia would motivate him to reach even greater heights.
Known for his clinical finishing and versatility in attack, the Uganda international is expected to add firepower to Gor Mahia’s frontline as the club targets success both domestically and on the continental stage.
Omedi’s rise has been one of the most remarkable stories in East African football.
He enjoyed a breakthrough 2023/24 Uganda Premier League campaign with Kitara FC, scoring 15 league goals to finish among the division’s top scorers and playing a pivotal role as the Hoima-based club lifted its maiden Stanbic Uganda Cup title.
He also impressed in continental football, scoring twice in the CAF Confederation Cup before earning a move to APR FC in Rwanda.
At international level, Omedi has established himself as one of Uganda’s most reliable attacking players.
He scored crucial goals during the Uganda Cranes’ successful qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and went on to find the net at the finals, cementing his place as a key figure in the national team.
His performances have made him one of the first names on the Cranes’ team sheet under recent national team setups.
Omedi’s reputation extended beyond East Africa following his spectacular rabona strike against KCCA FC, a goal that earned nominations for both the 2024 FIFA Puskás Award and the CAF Goal of the Year Award.
He went on to finish third in the FIFA Puskás Award voting, becoming one of the few Ugandan footballers to receive global recognition in the prestigious award.
Journey built on resilience
Before establishing himself as a professional footballer, Omedi balanced his playing career with work as a nurse while also serving in the Uganda Prisons Service.
His journey from healthcare worker and prison officer to one of East Africa’s most sought-after forwards has become an inspiration to many aspiring footballers across the region.
Gor Mahia believe Omedi’s experience, goalscoring record and continental exposure will strengthen their attacking options as they seek to retain the Kenyan Premier League title while mounting strong campaigns in regional and continental competitions.
