Trabzon, Türkiye: Egyptian football icon Mohamed Salah has completed a surprise move to Turkish Super Lig side Trabzonspor, signing a two-year contract following his departure from Liverpool and bringing an end to one of the most successful careers in the Premier League.
Trabzonspor confirmed the signing on Thursday, unveiling the 34-year-old before tens of thousands of jubilant supporters at Papara Park as the club secured one of the biggest transfers in its history.
Salah joined the Turkish side as a free agent after ending his nine-year spell at Anfield.
According to the club statement, Salah has signed a contract until June 2028 and is expected to earn around €17 million per season. The agreement also includes performance-related bonuses and a 20 per cent share of merchandise sales bearing his name.
Speaking at his official unveiling, Salah thanked Trabzonspor supporters for their warm reception and expressed his determination to help the club win trophies. “I am very happy to be here. Thank you for this incredible welcome. I have come here to compete, to win and to help this great club achieve success,” the former Liverpool marksman said.
The move ends widespread speculation over the former Liverpool star’s future. Salah had been linked with clubs in Saudi Arabia, Major League Soccer and a return to Italy, while Turkish rivals Beşiktaş were also reported to have shown interest before negotiations collapsed. Trabzonspor ultimately won the race for the Egyptian captain’s signature.

Having joined the Reds from AS Roma in 2017, he scored 257 goals in 442 appearances, making him Liverpool’s third-highest goalscorer of all time. During his trophy-laden stay at Anfield, he won two Premier League titles, the UEFA Champions League, the FA Cup, two League Cups, the FIFA Club World Cup and the UEFA Super Cup, while also claiming multiple individual honours, including four Premier League Golden Boots.
Liverpool had announced earlier this year that Salah would leave at the end of the 2025/26 season after both parties agreed to terminate the final year of his contract, allowing the forward to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
For Trabzonspor, the acquisition represents a major statement of intent as the club looks to challenge the traditional dominance of Turkish football’s Istanbul giants.
The Black Sea outfit finished third in the 2025/26 Turkish Super Lig season and will compete in the UEFA Europa League play-offs, with Salah expected to spearhead their domestic and European ambitions.
The transfer also marks the latest chapter in Salah’s distinguished European career, which has included spells at Basel, Chelsea, Fiorentina, Roma and Liverpool before his move to Türkiye.
