Morogoro, Tanzania: Defending boys’ football champions Bukedea Comprehensive School have arrived in Tanzania ahead of the 2026 Federation of East Africa Secondary Schools Sports Association (FEASSSA) Games, where they will begin their bid for a second successive title.
The Bukedea side crossed into Tanzania on Saturday and is heading to Morogoro, which will host the 23rd edition of the regional secondary schools championship from August 12 to 23.
Bukedea Comprehensive enter the tournament as reigning champions after winning the boys’ football title in Bukoba last year.
Speaking to DailyExpress, the school’s Games and Sports Teacher, Timothy Bogere, said the team was determined to retain its crown against some of the strongest schools from across East Africa.
“We are going into the tournament as reigning champions and our target is to retain the crown against some of the region’s strongest secondary schools,” Bogere said.
He credited the school administration for investing heavily in sports, saying the support had helped transform Bukedea Comprehensive into one of Uganda’s leading school sports institutions.
Headteacher Enoch Nadanga said the team would receive an even bigger celebration than last year’s if they successfully defend the title in Morogoro.
Bukedea have been drawn in Group C alongside Kenya’s Kakamega School, fellow Ugandan side Kyadondo SS and Tanzania’s Urambo Day School.
The group presents an early test for the defending champions, with Kakamega School among Kenya’s established footballing schools and Urambo Day carrying the advantage of playing in the host country.
Uganda will have four representatives in the boys’ football competition, with Amus College drawn in Group A, St Mary’s Kitende in Group B, and Bukedea Comprehensive and Kyadondo SS both placed in Group C.
Amus College will face Burundi’s IPTEM Makamba, Tanzania’s Mengo Boys, Nsumba and Mbeya Day in Group A.
In Group B, St Mary’s Kitende will compete against Rwanda’s CGF Kigali, Kenya’s St Mary’s Yala and Tanzania’s Morogoro.
Uganda will also be represented in several other disciplines, including girls’ football, basketball and rugby.
The 2026 championship will bring together schools from the five FEASSSA member countries, Uganda, Kenya, Tanzania, Rwanda and Burundi.
Kenya enter the competition as defending overall champions, while Tanzania will host the games across several venues in Morogoro, including Morogoro Teachers College, Sokoine University and Kilikala High School.
FEASSSA President Justus Mugisha said the regional body had inspected and approved the facilities ahead of the championship, expressing confidence that Morogoro was prepared to host a successful tournament.
FEASSSA Secretary General David Ngugi also praised the host city’s accommodation and sporting infrastructure, including facilities for swimming and other disciplines.
