Kampala, Uganda: The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) Members of Parliament have agreed to make monthly contributions of Shs250,000 towards party and caucus activities as part of a broader set of resolutions aimed at strengthening party discipline, improving service delivery and intensifying the fight against corruption.
The resolutions were adopted during an NRM Parliamentary Caucus meeting chaired by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni at Speke Resort Munyonyo on Friday, August 7, 2026.
The meeting brought together NRM Members of Parliament, party leaders and senior government officials to deliberate on unity, accountability, government programmes and other priorities.
Addressing journalists in Kampala on Tuesday, NRM Parliamentary Caucus Information Secretary Derrick Orone said implementation of the resolutions would take immediate effect.
“The resolutions adopted by the Caucus provide a clear roadmap for unity, accountability and implementation of government programs that directly improve the lives of Ugandans,” Orone said.
Orone, the Gogonyo County MP and Pallisa District NRM chairperson, said leaders had a duty to translate the resolutions into practical action at constituency, district and regional levels.
One of the key decisions reached at the meeting concerned party financing, with the caucus agreeing that every NRM MP will contribute Shs250,000 per month, effective June 2026.
Under the arrangement, Shs150,000 from each contribution will go to the NRM Party, while Shs100,000 will be allocated to the Caucus Secretariat to support mobilisation and operational activities.
On governance, the caucus pledged full support for government programmes and committed to strengthening discipline among elected leaders. Members also resolved to uphold integrity in the party’s internal processes and promote free, fair and peaceful elections.
The caucus further pledged support for the ongoing Local Council and Women Council elections, which members described as important for strengthening grassroots governance.
It also resolved to open its doors to independent MPs who subscribe to the NRM ideology and support government programmes.
On service delivery, lawmakers reaffirmed their support for the Parish Development Model, Operation Wealth Creation and Emyooga, pledging to closely monitor their implementation to ensure the programmes deliver on their objective of increasing household incomes.
The lawmakers also expressed concern over the rising cost of school fees in government-aided schools and tasked the government to consider sustainable interventions aimed at making education more affordable and accessible.
Other priorities include promoting regional integration and expanding market access for Ugandan goods and services within the East African Community and beyond.
The caucus also agreed to prioritise strategic investments and programmes in health, security and infrastructure as key pillars of national transformation.
Members further noted that they would deliberate and take a position on the candidature of Ambassador Olara Otunnu.
Orone thanked President Museveni, the NRM Secretariat, and several senior leaders for their guidance during the meeting, and called on NRM leaders in Gogonyo County, Pallisa, and the wider Bukedi sub-region to disseminate the resolutions and mobilise communities around government programmes.
The Munyonyo meeting comes as the ruling party seeks to consolidate internal unity, strengthen mobilisation and respond to public concerns over corruption and service delivery.
