Yiga Kayiira, National Unity Platform (NUP) Councilor who has been serving as the LC5 Vice-Chairman has taken over as the acting LC5 Chairman for Kayunga District.
Kayiira, 28, will be serving in an acting role until Electoral Commission organizes fresh elections.
The district chair fell vacant after the death of Ffefeka Sserubogo who had served for a few days. Security and medical reports confirmed that Sserubogo committed suicide after his body was found hanging on the tree behind his house
In a ceremony presided over by Roselyn Adong Ruhoni, the Kayunga District Chief Administrative Officer (CAO), Kayiira took over the chairmanship assuring the people of Kayunga that during this period he will try to fulfill the promises of the deceased to the people.
Meanwhile, over 14 Candidates from the NUP have already expressed interest in the chairmanship. These among others include popular radio presenter Dennis Katongole Omuntongole, Harriet Nakwedde among others.
