KAMPALA – The Police at Old Kampala in Kampala are investigating a fatal accident at Bukesa Traffic lights along Hoima road involving a bodaboda rider who was knocked by a speeding car, killing him instantly.
Luke Owoysigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police deputy spokesperson identified the deceased as Geoffrey Tumuheirwe, 27, who was killed at about 6:45 am on Wednesday, July 28, 2021.
According to Owoyesigyire, the driver, identified as Ismah Lubega, 26, a resident of Maganjo in Wakiso District was driving motor vehicle UBK 565B.
Eyewitnesses told the police that Lubega was ‘recklessly’ driving at high speed and knocked the rider dead.
According to Owoyesigyire, the police from Old Kampala responded and arrived to the scene and removed the body, and was conveyed to Kampala Capital City Authority mortuary at Mulago for a post mortem.
“The driver never stopped but continued driving until the police, assisted by other bodaboda riders chased and intercepted him. He was arrested and detained at Old Kampala Police Station where the vehicle was also parked.
Owoyesigyire however cautioned bodaboda riders against ‘firing’ up whenever an accident occurs.
“We are calling for calm and patience among the boda boda riders, they should allow police find out whether the allegations made about the cause of the accident are true or not,” he stated.
