David Emong wins Bronze for Uganda in Tokyo Paralympic games

TOKYO, JAPAN: Uganda’s most decorated Para-athlete David Emong has once again lifted Uganda’s flag high by winning a bronze medal in men’s 1500m T46 category at the ongoing Tokyo 2020 Paralympic games.

In a highly contested race, the star para-athlete emerged third in a time of 3:53.51 which is his personal best time. Russia’s Aleksandre Laremchuk won the race in 3:52.08, while Bulgaria’s Hristiyan Stoyanov took silver after crossing the line in 3 minutes and 52.63 seconds.

Emong, 30, started the race at a low pace before he increased his pace in the last 800m and  overtook the closest competitors to grab the third position, putting Uganda on the medal table at this edition of the Games.

Emong’s bronze medal at the events brings Uganda’s medal tally at the Paralympic games to two after a silver that he won in the last edition of the Games in 2016 in Brazil. Next in action will be Peace Oroma will who will be competing in the Women’s 100m T13 on August 31st.

Uganda sent a team of four Para athletes at the events that included; David Emong for 1500m, Husna Kukundakwe for para swimming, Peace Oroma for athletics and Ritah Asiimwe in Para badminton.
