LUUKA, UGANDA: The First Deputy Prime Minister Busoga kingdom Prof Dr Muhammad Lubega Kisambira has advised people in Busoga to avoid the habit of consoling themselves all the time but instead concentrate on working for their future times.
“Our message to people of Busoga is to stop consoling yourselves all the time. You always remain behind and blame everyone before blaming ourselves,” Prof Lubega said.

He was on Friday speaking at the burial of Buuza Robinah, the mother to RDC Buvuma district Mr Godfrey Tilutya who was buried at Nabikuyi village, Nawampiti sub county in Luuka district.

Dr Lubega urged people to stop gossiping about politics but instead use current rains to concentrate on growing food crops both for food at home and as a source of income.
“The time you’re spending gossiping about politics, fellow Basoga elections are over. You finished electing your leaders so it’s time you concentrate on growing potatoes, groundnuts, maize, etc and have food at home,” Dr Lubega emphasized.

Dr. Lubega says that forefathers in Busoga used to grow enough food and even supply to the government but this has since failed nowadays.
“Your fathers and grandparents used to grow things in plenty and even supply to the government but what happened to the current generation,” He questioned.

He also urged people to develop a good culture of handling funds citing that even if someone received millions of money but without a good attitude towards work, everything will fail.
“Even if president Museveni gave you a million of money when your attitude towards work is poor, you will eat it, buy new clothing, get wives and after two years you will go to your previous state,” he said.

Prof Lubega adds that they have decided to put a difference in Luuka district to see that no one remains behind by introducing an association dubbed Luuka Patriots Association (LUPA) which is aiming at developing youths and other people in the district.

He revealed a secret that they will this week deliver welding machines to youths and banana suckers to women in an initiative to fight poverty amongst the people.
“We introduced LUPA to make everyone in Luuka district patriotic and develop them indiscriminately through our various projects. We are not looking for votes in this but our aim is to make everyone in Luuka exercise his or her gift patriotically and productively for development,” Dr Lubega clarified.

Recently, Luuka Patriot Association (LUPA) pledged to construct eight houses for health workers at Kiyunga health center IV in Luuka district and according to him (Lubega), every house will have a living room, bed room, store and a bathroom.
“LUPA is going to construct eight houses for health workers at Kiyunga health center IV and after that we are going to support youths. We shall also supply 2,000 good banana suckers in every sub county,” Prof confirmed.

While touring the site recently where the houses are to be constructed, district officials led by Luuka district boss Simon Wakaze and district health officer (DHO), Dr Wandera Christopher pledged total support to the association.

The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Luuka district, Ms Rosemary Byabashaija also commended the association for coming up with such developments and urged them to continue preaching patriotism to children especially those in school.
“We appreciate your efforts as LUPA and we continue calling upon your involvement in teaching children patriotism such that we have a better society in future with a patriotic generation,” RDC said.
