Kampala, Uganda: Uganda Martyrs University (UMU) reaffirmed their dominance in the Pepsi University Football League (UFL) with a decisive 3-0 victory over St. Lawrence University (SLAU) in the grand finale played on Sunday at Wankulukuku Stadium.
Goals from Emayo Calvin Peter, Sseruwunge Crispus, and Obedgiu Ronald sealed the title for the Nkozi-based side, as UMU claimed a record third UFL championship, cementing their status as the most successful team in the competition’s history.
Emayo opened the scoring in the 35th minute with a clinical finish before Sseruwunge doubled UMU’s advantage just before halftime in the 41st minute. St. Lawrence University’s hopes of a comeback were crushed early in the second half when Obedgiu Ronald added a third in the 55th minute.
This victory was a redemption story for UMU, who had previously fallen short in past campaigns but now stand alone with three UFL titles to their name. For SLAU, it was another painful chapter, their third appearance in a UFL final ending once again in defeat.
The final was played under clear skies and witnessed by a vibrant crowd, adding to the grandeur of a well-contested tournament finale. Last year’s champions, Nkumba University, handed over the title to a deserving UMU side.
Earlier in the day, Bugema University clinched third place after edging Islamic University in Uganda (IUIU) 1-0, thanks to a decisive goal from Mark Innocent Musuk.
The 2024/25 Pepsi UFL season drew to a close with Uganda Martyrs University reaffirming their legacy, setting a new benchmark for university football excellence in Uganda.
