KAMPALA, UGANDA: At least 389 students on Friday graduated with Diplomas and Certificates in different courses at Global Institute of Information, Technology, and Business, Makerere.
The institute’s 5th graduation ceremony was graced by a number of invited guests from within and outside Uganda’s capital Kampala who witnessed students graduating in a variety of courses including Catering and hotel management, Fashion and design, Medical records, Electrical maintenance, Information technology, among others.
The deputy Resident City Commissioner (DRCC) Mbale Northern Division Ms. Prossy Mwanjuzi, who was the guest of honour urged the graduates to always aim higher by advancing in their respective courses.
“I encourage you to always aim higher and advance in your studies. Don’t stop at certificates or diploma but please advance,” Ms Mwanjuzi said before advising the ladies not to rush for relationships but first concentrate on professionalism and earn money.
Ms Mwanjuzi however, urged the graduands to always utilize the freedom of the internet well and avoid abusing the president and government which has since enabled everything happen. She says that some youths after getting trained and familiar with technology, turn their acquired wisdom against the government and the president.
“Dear fellow youths who have graduated with ICT certificates and diplomas, use those skills properly, don’t waste them on the internet by abusing the President who laid a foundation for your education.”
She urged them to be good newsmen and good writers while executing their profession.
Ms. Mwanjuzi also commended the government of Uganda for peace restoration across the country citing that in a destabilized country, nothing good comes out but Uganda is enjoying a stable economy to involve in any business.
”You may believe it or not but am telling you if it wasn’t peace brought by NRM government, today we would be discussing other things, not graduations, thank God who gave us a courageous leader Museveni,” Mwanjuzi said.
Mwanjuzi appreciated the Director Global Institute, Mr. Ben Opolot, and his wife Elizabeth Opolot for being innovative and for equipping youths with knowledge and skills aimed at fighting unemployment in Uganda, saying that it’s the only way to solve it.
Meanwhile, the Principal Global Institute, Dr Gideon Tumuhereze thanked the government for allowing them to operate the institute without any interference and as well requested the government and other private employers to always consider their students ascertaining that they produce excellent students ready to serve everywhere.
“We thank the government of Uganda for allowing us to operate this institute without any interference. We, therefore, request the government and other employers in this country to consider students produced from this institute because we produce ‘cream’ material,” Dr. Tumuhereze said.
He also revealed that the institute was hit by COVID-19 and many students were unable to finish their courses due to the circumstances that came along with the pandemic.
As a motivational strategy, the institute management awarded 2 million Uganda shillings as start-up capital to the best students among the graduands of the 5th graduation.
