IGANGA, UGANDA; The Royals of Kigulu chiefdom in Busoga Kingdom are split over who should be the next chiefdom prince (Ngobi of Kigulu) after the death of Prince Patrick Izimba Gologolo in late August this year.
Recently, a section of princes and princesses in the chiefdom especially those close to the deceased’s family organized prayers for the late Ngobi of Kigulu(Izimba Patrick) where they also unveiled his son Gideon Gilbert Gologolo, 22, as the heir awaiting to undergo processes to be enthroned as new chiefdom prince (Ngobi of Kigulu).
On November 16, 2022, Gilbert Gideon was enthroned as Ngobi of Kigulu chiefdom after carrying out various cultural norms at Kigulu hill, Nakalama sub-county in Iganga district. The cultural function was led by a one Beatrice commonly known as Kigulu Bwonotuvaamu who is responsible for Kigulu hill and it’s spirits.
Among the activities of the day was slaughtering a goat and a bull before making the enthroned Gideon to drink raw blood and consuming a raw pancreas from the goat. He was also tasked to pierce the forehead of the bull with a spear which he strictly did, something which they said was a requirement to ascertain the right prince of Kigulu chiefdom. These activities according to the organizers were done to fulfill what should be done in determining the next Ngobi.
This comes after a section of princes and princesses in Kigulu conducted consultative meetings guided by the chief prince of Kigulu chiefdom and appointed Rtd Col prince Chris Mudoola as the new Ngobi of Kigulu in a meeting which took place on October 6, this year at Iganga district headquarters.
After the function, they vowed to introduce him to Busoga kingdom leadership which is spearheaded by the Kyabazinga in Bugembe, Jinja.
However, speaking to the chief prince of Kigulu chiefdom Hajji Ismael Kyeyago says the Ngobi clan doesn’t operate the way the deceased’s family did to enthrone Ngobi of Kigulu.
“I call upon Kigulu chiefdom to remain calm until the processes of our Royal prince (Rtd col Mudoola) are completed. You know very well that we’re done with election and the Kingdom is much aware,”
“I want to inform everyone that whatever you’re hearing about that they enthroned new Ngobi of Kigulu are false and baseless, our leadership is not based on witch practices of contemporary pagan witchcraft but mobilizing people and serving them. We don’t have any problem if they unveiled a family heir,” Chief prince Kyeyago said.
Hajji Kyeyago also adds that princes who have reigned since 1800 have been going through rightful procedures not in a satanic way like they did recently.
“The princes who have been reigning since 1800, no one has ever swallowed animal blood. There is no Ngobi who has ever done such satanic things,” Kyeyago added.
Meanwhile, one of the princes Daniel Walube alias Kisadhaki sued the late Gologolo before his death citing that he was not the right Ngobi but unfortunately died before court ruling.
After learning about the appointment of Rtd Col Mudoola as new Ngobi of Kigulu, prince Walube rushed and lodged in a court order to stop prince Mudoola from swearing in as new prince of Kigulu (Ngobi of Kigulu).
Mr Kyeyago has however confirmed to this publication that they have filed their affidavits awaiting court ruling in the matter which was adjourned to December 20, this year.
“You know very well prince Daniel sued late Izimba and later asked court to block the swearing in of prince Midoola. We responded to the court order and we’re waiting for the magistrate to give the ruling on December 20, and this will help to settle these issues of Obwa’Ngobi bwa Kigulu,” Hajji Kyeyago said before urging all princes and princesses in Kigulu chiefdom to remain calm citing that they already have the Ngobi of Kigulu.
The section of princesses and princes close to the late Izimba family says the throne of Kigulu chiefdom Royal prince is hereditary from father to son something which the chief prince of Kigulu Hajji Kyeyago refutes with evidence citing that by the time late Izimba Patrick Gologolo was appointed the Ngobi of Kigulu, his father was not the Ngobi at that time implying that it’s not an automatic hereditary throne.
Kyeyago gave the list of Ngobi of Kigulu who have been reigning since 1800 pointing out their successors and predecessors as not biologically related in a matter of father-to-son successions.
