LIRA, UGANDA: Lira City female workers representative Hon Sarah Awor Angweri has applauded the late minister (rtd) Col. Charles Okello Engola aka Macodwogo for being brave, Giant and a Courageous Leader.

Speaking to journalists on Wednesday at Mayor’s Garden in Lira City, Hon Awor said Engola was a no-nonsense man and always principled in his work.

She added that Engola will still be remembered for his achievement in crashing the Karamojong cattle rustlers and LRA warriors who invaded northern Uganda in the past years.

“It is a big loss! a big blow to the Lango sub-region and Uganda at large. We shall miss him for his courageous words,” Angweri said.

“I am not surprised that all Ugandans are in pain he lost his life in such a queer circumstance.”

Awor condemned the act of shooting in which the minister lost his life and said this should have not been done in that way since all the departments in the country are in economic crisis.

She said if people were to be shot for delayed payment then every head of department would be shot at this moment of crisis.

“The economy is limping at least we should learn to control our temper and emotions we should better advocate for co-existing rather than putting everyone in pain why must you shoot and kill the superior this is very bad he should have looked for the best alternative/solution to the matter instead of killing” Awor urged.

She added that this should act as a lesson to everyone since it might not end with the minister. She wonders why the guard should be called a dedicated servant.

Ms Awor applauded the government of Uganda for according to their father, son, mentor, superior and son of the soil an official burial.

Rtd Col Charles Okello Engola succumbed to bullet injuries on Tuesday morning after he was shot by his bodyguard Pte William Sabiiti at his home in Kyanja, a Kampala Suburb.

According to preliminary reports making rounds, the bodyguard before killing himself was heard wailing that he acted that way because his arrears were not paid for some good period of time.

An official burial program released indicates that Minister Engola’s burial is set for Saturday 13th May 2023 at his home in Oyam district.

The late Col [Rtd] Charles Okello Engola Macodwogo is survived by a widow and four children.
