Bunga Bet, a Ugandan-owned sports betting firm has announced its expansion to other countries after opening up new offices in Mozambique and Malawi in the Southern Africa region.
The celebration for the new BungaBet offices was held at the Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) popularly known as Entebbe Zoo, an event where a number of both local and international ambassadors of the betting company attended in person.
Among the ambassadors were Uganda’s finest artistes Mayanja Ibrahim aka Big Eye and Mugwanya Michael aka King Micheal.
Speaking at the event, Mr Prosper Tuhaise, the CEO of Bunga Bet revealed that each of the new offices in Malawi and Mozambique will employ over 39 Ugandan staff with the aim of trimming the burden of unemployment that has burdened the Pearl for years.
”The main reason why we established this betting company was not to just make money but also to impact our society and offer solutions to some of the challenges affecting our people. So we are now going to offer jobs to over 39 staff in each of the new offices,” said Mr Tuhaise, a staunch supporter and leader of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) in Mbarara district, western Uganda.
Bunga Bet opened its doors for business in 2017 and is the first indigenous betting company in a flooded industry dominated by foreign companies but of course, being a tactical entrepreneur, Tuhaise has been able to keep afloat.
Tuhaise, a humble but heavily loaded tycoon has been able to outsource a couple of opportunities for thousands of Ugandans using his tight and resourceful connections in South Africa.
For example in 2018, he brought into the country former Premier League stars Emmanuel Eboue and Ibrahima Sonko to mentor football youngsters across the country.
On top of the common betting on football matches, Bunga Bet also offers a platform for online betting, virtual betting as well as slot machines.
At the moment, Bunga Bet employs over 500 people with over 50 outlets throughout the country.
