Jinja councillor, LC1 chairperson arrested over land fraud

JINJA, UGANDA: The Police in Jinja City have arrested and detained Micheal Kimera a Councillor at Jinja Northen Division Council and Buwekula cell LCI chairperson, Jamawa Kwegemya Waiswa on allegations of fraud.

It is alleged that in 2019 when Kimera was speaker of the then Mafubira sub-county connived with Jamawa who has been LCI chairperson for the last 18 years and fraudulently sold the land belonging to David Lukwagana in Buwekula to unsuspecting buyers.

The duo was arrested and locked up on Wednesday, July 26, 2023, on the orders of the Division Deputy Resident City Commissioner, Lydia Kalemera after several complaints against them.

This publication has further established that Kimera has for long been involved in several land deals with Jamawa and that is how they split Lukwagana’s land into 11 small plots and sold it to other buyers.

A police officer who preferred anonymity told DailyExpress that Kimera admitted to the charges in his statement.

“But it seems Jamawa is a hardcore. She is insisting on being taken to court yet she is the very person who issued sales agreements to the current occupants,” said the police source Friday morning.

Meanwhile, the Deputy RCC has appealed to leaders to refrain from abusing their positions for personal gain and engaging in unlawful practices of land grabbing and theft of property.
