FUFA lifts suspension on Express FC league matches after crucial meeting

Kampala, (UG): The Executive Committee of Uganda’s football governing body – FUFA has decided to lift the suspension on Express FC UPL matches.

The decision followed a crucial meeting held Friday at FUFA House in Mengo, where members of the Uganda Football Referees Association (UFRA) and the FUFA Referees Standing Committee (FRSC) were in attendance.

The suspension of Express FC matches stemmed from unfortunate incidents during the Uganda Premier League match between UPDF FC and Express on the 27th of October 2023.

Referee Fahad Sekayuba, who officiated the game, faced hostility from a section of fans and was subsequently attacked on his way back to Kampala after the match.

FUFA, in lifting the suspension expressed its commitment to ongoing judicial processes and collaboration with government organs to ensure justice prevails in this matter.

The body said sanctions will be applied if individuals or parties are found guilty of the reprehensible actions against the referee.

In a gesture of goodwill, FUFA has undertaken to cover the medical bills of referee Fahad Sekayuba, emphasizing their commitment to the well-being of match officials.

The affected matches will be rescheduled by the competition organizers, allowing Express FC to resume its participation in the league.

The football community awaits further developments as the judicial processes unfold, hoping for a resolution that upholds the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship.
