Kampala, (UG): Police in Kampala have confirmed that Pastor Aloysious Bugingo’s bodyguard identified as Richard Muhumuza succumbed to bullet injuries in a fatal shooting that occurred on Tuesday night in Namungoona, a Kampala suburb.

Kampala Metropolitan Police Deputy Spokesperson ASP Luke Owoyesigyire confirmed the development as said the police at Old Kampala Division are already investigating the grievous incident which left the city pastor with minor bullet wounds on the night.

“The Old Kampala Police are currently conducting a comprehensive investigation into a tragic incident involving the attempted murder of Pastor Alloysious Bugingo from the House of Prayer Ministry and the unfortunate killing of his bodyguard, Muhumuza Richard,” Mr Owoyesigyire said in a statement on Wednesday morning.

According to Mr Owoyesigyire, the incident happened at approximately 9:00 PM on January 2, 2024, when unidentified assailants opened fire on Pastor Bugingo’s vehicle, Reg No: PRAIZ GOD, along Namungoona, Zone 2, Kasubi, Rubaga Division, Kampala at Bwalakata Junction along National Housing Road, before swiftly escaping the scene on a motorcycle.”

By Wednesday morning, Police said Bugingo was still undergoing medical treatment under close monitoring from the doctors to fully recover from the scary incident.

“Statements from eyewitnesses have been diligently recorded, and the deceased’s body has been conveyed to the City Mortuary at Mulago for a thorough postmortem examination,” said Owoyiisgyire.

The scene of crime was last night cordoned off to facilitate investigations into the incident as the nation still grips in shock of the premeditated attacks which have in the past claimed lives of high-profile government officials and religious clerics in a similar manner.

Owoyesigyire said upon an immediate response to the incident, the police discovered that the scene had been tampered with but with the help of CCTV, the perpetrators of the crime will be pursued and brought to justice books.
