Wakiso, (UG): At least three people have been confirmed dead after drowning in Lake Victoria waters on Thursday afternoon when the boat they were travelling in capsized near Busabala landing site in Makindye Division, Wakiso District
According to Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Mr Patrick Onyango, the three individuals (yet to be identified by press time) were transporting sand from Mukono Islands to Busabala when the tragic incident.
Onyango, in a post via X, attributed the cause of the accident to the heavy storm which hit their boat on the afternoon and drowned them in the waters.
DailyExpress understands that the police in the area and the rescue team have already embarked on the process of retrieving the bodies of the trio as investigating officers take charge of the incident.
This is not the first time a person has drowned in the Busabala waters, which now pose a danger to human lives.
For example, in August last year, a nine-year-old pupil of Busabala Primary School in Wakiso district drowned in the lake after he had gone swimming with his six-year-old sister who survived.
