Kampala, (UG): The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) political party is tomorrow, Wednesday, March 13th expected to kick off its nationwide register update which will among others see its supporters renew their membership as well as registration of new ones in the runup to the busy election period in waiting.

The exercise, which President Museveni, the NRM National Chairman launched last month on February 28, 2024, aims at expanding the membership scale of the ruling party ahead of the 2026 general elections as well as weaving out ghost members and those who perhaps deserted the party.

The president also urged the NRM leaders to emphasize the four NRM ideologies with the members to clearly understand the four NRM Principles of Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Democracy and Socio-economic transformation so that they can solve the problems of Ugandans.

“Mobilisation, holding meetings and all those other efforts will be very easy if you go back to the NRM principles. The principles of the NRM are a diagnosis of the problems of Uganda. Sensitize Ugandans to cause the much-desired socio-economic transformation in the country,” he said.

Meanwhile, President Museveni’s political advisor, who also doubles as the Office of National Chairman (ONC) Manager, Hajjat Hadijah Uzeiye Namyalo while addressing the district coordinators on Tuesday, challenged them to mobilize more support for the party in the five-day period of the exercise but also to ensure that the register is not corrupted.

“The five-day exercise will include renewal and registration of new members starting from March 13 to 17. During the exercise we will verify all the members who are active in the party and remove those who are no longer active (especially deceased),” Hajjat Namyalo said.

“We expect coordinators to look for more new members and exceed current membership levels because numbers mean a lot when it comes to elections,” she added, emphasizing that each district and city coordinator has been tasked to secure at least 10 new members in every village.

“I urge those in charge of this exercise to be very careful and avoid corrupt party members who might be having personal interests that contradict with the party rules,” Ms Namyalo stressed.

The NRM Register Update Exercise

Starting tomorrow, March 13th, 2024, a member of the NRM will just need to go to their NRM village office or designated location where the exercise is taking place and meet with their respective party registrars to present their details.

Upon completion of the registration exercise on Sunday, 17th March 2024, the display of the new register will take place in all the 72000 villages in the country.

Upon receipt of the member details, the registrar will proceed to update the details or amend as presented in the NRM Yellow Book, which then certifies the member as a bonafide NRM cadre and eligible for the party’s electoral activities and the national elections at large.
