Kampala, (UG):- Edmond Ariho, the Patriotic League of Uganda’s (PLU) candidate in the recently concluded Makerere University Guild Elections has run to the Varsity tribunal challenging Lubega Vincent Nsamba’s victory as Guild President.

Nsamba, attached to the opposition National Unity Platform (NUP) was last week declared winner of the tightly contested election by Ramadhan Kirunda, the chairperson of the university’s Electoral Commission after he garnered a total of 2450 votes, while Ariho, the closest rival trailed in second with 2436 votes.

Others in the race were Mr Kasekende Fulungensio who clinched the third runner-up spot with 1674 votes, while Wandukwa Simon secured the fourth runner-up position with 1039 votes in the election which saw a total of 16 candidates compete for the much-coveted guild seat.

Now, barely a week since his victory, Ariho, the runner-up in the election has written to the University Guild Elections Tribunal disputing Lubega’s election as the 90th guild president and asked among others, a repeat of the election.
