Why Museveni appointed First Son Muhoozi as new Chief of Defence Forces

Kampala, (UG):- President Yoweri Museveni has appointed First Son Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba as the new Chief of Defence Forces (CDF), the highest rank in Uganda’s military force.

Gen Muhoozi who has been the Senior Presidential Advisor on Special Operations replaces Gen Wilson Mbadi, now appointed State Minister for Trade in the recent cabinet reshuffle.

In the army changes announced on Thursday evening by defence spokesperson Brig Felix Kulayigye, Gen Museveni, who is Commander in Chief (CiC) of the armed forces appointed Lt Gen Sam Okiding as the Deputy CDF.

Lt Gen Okiding replaces Gen Peter Elwelu, now appointed Museveni’s Senior Presidential advisor.

The president also promoted Maj Gen Jack Agonza Bakasumba to replace Maj Gen Loepold Kyanda as the new Joint Chief of Staff, with the latter now set to be deployed as a defence attache in a yet-to-be-known country.

Also promoted is the Special Forces commander, Brigadier David Mugisha who is now a Major General while Col Asaph Nyakikuru, SFC Commando has been elevated to the rank of Brigadier from Colonel.
