Army speaks out after UPDF funeral van rams into four vehicles on Entebbe road

Entebbe, (UG):- The Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) has spoken out on the incident in which its funeral van lost control and rammed into four vehicles along the Kampala-Entebbe Road on Tuesday afternoon.

In a statement via X (formerly Twitter), UPDF acknowledged the incident saying the vehicle, of Reg no H4DF 1532 lost control due to brake system failure causing it to ram into the nearby vehicles, but fortunately, no fatality or causality was involved.

“Today at around 1340hrs, our funeral Van Reg No: H4DF 1532 lost control due to brake system failure at Abayita Ababiri township along Kampala – Entebbe road, ramming into four other vehicles,” a statement posted via the army’s official handle on X platform reads in part.

According to UPDF, the traffic police and transport department are handling the matter together with the affected persons.

“We regret the incident, but fortunately, no one was injured. UPDF will always aspire to keep safety on the road and that of other road users,” the statement concluded.

Efforts to address road safety in Uganda include initiatives to improve road infrastructure, enhance enforcement of traffic laws, promote road safety education and awareness campaigns, and strengthen emergency medical services.

However, significant challenges remain, and concerted efforts from government agencies, civil society organizations, and the public are needed to reduce the incidence of road accidents and improve road safety in Uganda.
