LGBTQ supporters shouldn’t be allowed to cross to Masaabaland for 2026 campaigns

By Steven Masiga

As Bamasaaba we believe that our creator Muntu and Seera his wife evolved from the caves of Mt  Elgon, our culture just like what is in Christian dom, is a marriage of a man and a woman and any politician who wants our votes during the 2026 general elections must equivocally trumpet this the loudest.

Political actors must craft their ideologies or political programs on real issues that affect their communities like poverty, unemployment, disease, education, health and insecurity among others. A clear road map on how to address the above may attract more public appeal towards your political cause than support for homosexuality or other so-called gender rights like  LGBTQ and yes those who are fighting against LGBTQ, will get our votes since such a vice can eat away our culture and consequently society.

Whereas, as a cultural institution, we are stopped by law from making political statements or doing any sort of politics, however, we can’t sit with our hands folded when our culture is being eroded away by some politicians with huge followings.

The youths sometimes listen to their so-called idols than their parents and cultural leaders, and as custodians of our people’s culture, we must quickly come on the scene and guide our community on what is culturally acceptable and equally culturally forbidden.

Aware that cultural institutions exist to preserve the culture of their communities certain statements flying around by European diplomats praising Hon Bobi wine as a champion of homosexuality rights in Uganda, ought not to be left unattended too.

The 2026 general elections are a few steps away and as a community, we ask politicians intending to contest or solicit for our votes to come out clean and pronounce themselves openly on themes and topics forbidden both by our cultures and laws such as homosexuality.

The Bamasaaba as a community, resoundingly challenge and hold everyone in disdain whose beliefs are contrary to our cultural aspirations.

It is equally unacceptable practice to ape other people’s practices, Bamasaaba our thinking is that our culture and biblical/ Islamic beliefs will enable us to guide our children and grandchildren, though we are happy with the supplementary efforts in the form of the new statutes on the same that is the anti-homosexual Act.

Even in the absence of such a law we were determined to cling to our cultural beliefs as a guidepost on our sexual life the way Muntu and his wife Seera our ancestors were.

Free advice to those politicians in the National Unity platform (NUP) please come out and state where you belong. Am very much cognisant of the fact that even in an organization each individual may have their views and positions different from their party positions and I know of people in NUP who are uncomfortable with the European homosexual support that Mr Bobi Wine is currently receiving from his “foreign” friends.

Before crossing the rivers Nile, Mpologoma and Namatala, we shall cleanse them with Manafwa waters.
