Inside Bamasaaba’s list of demands tabled before President Museveni

Mbale, (UG):- The leadership of the Inzu Ya Masaaba cultural institution, led by HRH Jude MIke Mudoma III have tabled a long list of demands before President Museveni’s government, which they want to be given for the benefit of the Masabaaland.

“When you go back, tell President Museveni that the Bamasaaba are happy with the gesture of granting the late Umukhuka emeritus Wilson Weasa Wamimbi an official burial, Mr Mudoma, the reigning Umukuka heaped the Vice President Rtd Maj Jessica Alupo with this message last week on behalf of the bamasaba.

The Umukuka further appealed to the Government of Uganda to expedite the process of granting a public university to Bamasaba which the president had promised some time while in Kapchorwa on an official duty.

Mr Mudoma also demanded that government construct a strategic research institute in memory of the late Wamimbi to keep his legacy as the first-ever Umukhuka of the Bugisu cultural institution.

He, above all, appealed for unity and encouraged his subjects to focus on issues of development and education.

Meanwhile, the Bishop for Mbale diocese, Rt Rev John Nandaah besides his homilies also went the extra mile to caution the youth against disrespecting elders but also in the same breath appealed to the Government to grant Busano a4 kilometre road from Nyondo up to Busano, while other speakers appealed to Government to identify some Bamasaba and give them jobs such as those of RDCs.

The Manjiya County MP, Hon John Baptist Nambeshe (NUP) wondered how there are only two ministers from Masaabaland, of all those votes that Bamasaaba gave President Museveni in the previous elections.

The vice president who represented the president presented 10 million shillings on behalf of President Museveni to the bereaved family of the late Wamimbi and also contributed 5 million shillings to Inzu Ya Masaaba institution for the loss of their first Umukuka.

DailyExpress also learnt that tripartite council meetings which were held in the Districts of Manafwa, Bududa and Namisindwa, and much earlier in Sironko and Bulambuli resolved to request Government and fellow local councils in Bugisu to name a central road in Mbale city in memory of the first Umukuka emeritus Wilson Wamimbi. This suggestion was equally re-empathized by Mzee Wetangula the father of the current speaker of Kenyan Parliament.

Wilson Weasa Wamimbi left behind 63 children and grandchildren.

He was accorded an official burial by the Government of Uganda and Vice President Maj (Rtd) Jesca Alupo represented President Museveni, the chief mourner.

The burial ceremony was funded by the Government up to the tune of 150,000,00 million shillings and as it is customary in such official burial ceremonies, a three-gun salute was observed. Much of this money was spent on hiring the Aplus Funeral Service vans and services and feeding mourners among other expenses.
