CAF confirms date, venue for AFCON 2025 qualifiers

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the roadmap for the qualification matches for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with the draws of the qualifiers set to take place on July 4th, 2024.

The draw, which will be broadcast live on television, will feature 48 nations vying for a spot in one of the most prestigious football tournaments in the world.

According to CAF, the 48 teams will be divided into 12 groups of four teams each, with the top two teams from each group advancing to the finals.

The qualifiers are set to kick off in September 2024, with the first 24 teams to secure their places in the AFCON, scheduled to take place in Morocco in 2025.

Reigning African champions Cote d’Ivoire will be joined by a star-studded lineup of teams, including Algeria, Angola, Benin, Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, Cape Verde, Central African Republic, Chad, Comoros, Congo, DR Congo, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Eswatini, and Ethiopia.

Other notable teams include Gabon, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Guinea Bissau, Kenya, Lesotho, Liberia, Libya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mali, Mauritania, Morocco, Mozambique, Namibia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sao Tome & Principe, Senegal, Sierra Leone, South Africa, South Sudan, Sudan, Tanzania, Togo, Tunisia, Uganda, Zambia, and Zimbabwe.

The AFCON tournament is one of the most highly regarded football competitions in the world, attracting millions of viewers and showcasing the best of African football talent.

Morocco, the host nation for the 2025 edition, is no stranger to the tournament, having previously hosted it in 1988.
