Kadaga urges ghetto youths to engage in PDM for wealth creation

Kamuli, (UG):- The First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for East Africa Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga has asked the chairperson for youths in Kamuli district to make sure that all Ghetto Youths in Kamuli district benefit from Parish Development Modal (PDM).

Kadaga, who is also the Woman Member of Parliament for Kamuli District, made the rallying call during the meeting she had with the Ghetto Youths at Kamuli Youth Centre in Kamuli Municipality.

The ghetto youths led by their chairperson Yusuf Abdullah alias Manager Sufu told Kadaga that they are marginalised by the community who call them criminals because of their lifestyle and prohibit them from benefiting from government projects.

“Maama Kadaga we as Ghetto Youths are denied the opportunity of benefiting from government projects like PDM because the community see us as criminals yet we also have families and problems”; Yusuf said.

Manager Sufu also told the Kamuli district women members of parliament that they got talents from the ghetto like musicians, artists designers, hair printers and many others but they don’t lack capital.

“As ghetto, we have our friends with several talents but we lack capital which hinders us from performing our talents”; he said before asking Kadaga to give them a music studio and washing bay machines.

The assistant RDC Kamuli district Mr Lazaro Magezi asked Kadaga to engage with President Museveni such that he meet with the Ghetto Youths of Kamuli.

“Maama on behalf of the office of the president I ask you to engage with President Museveni to meet with these ghetto youths “; Mr Magezi said.

Meanwhile, Kuwembula Charles Maxwell, the chairperson LCV Kamuli district has warned the police to stop arresting the Ghetto Youths because of their hairstyle and design.

“We know that there are criminals among the Ghetto Youths but not all Ghetto Youths are criminals so stop arresting youths because of their lifestyle. Fashion and design those not determine criminal,” Kuwembula said.

However, Rt Hon Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga said “Before I didn’t know that in Kamuli we have ghettos not until I received a phone call from a ghetto boy asking for 20000 so I was so curious to meet with the Ghetto Youths.”

She also asked the chairperson for youths in Kamuli district to make sure that all Ghetto Youths who have national identity cards benefit from the PDM.

Kadaga also promised the Ghetto Youths that she will make sure that they meet with President Museveni. She also said that she will give them a music studio before February 2025 such that they promote their talents

“The president will visit  Busoga region in January I will make sure that he meets with the Ghetto Youths. On the issue of the music studio, I will give it to you before February 2025”; she said 

She also directed the police of Kamuli with immediate effect to release the three ghetto youths who were arrested on suspicion of Idle and disorderly.
“In Uganda, we no longer have idle and disorderly as a crime so I direct police to release Kamezere Richard, Kasozi Abdul and Kigidde Fahad who were arrested on suspicion of Idle and disorderly” she said.
