Kibuku, (UG);- Hill View College Bulangira, a privately owned secondary school in Kibuku District has emerged as the top performer in the whole Bukedi sub-region in 2024 UCE results for the new lower secondary curriculum.

Mr Byantalo Hausi Njaye, the Director of Quality Assurance who also serves as the Public Relations Officer for the school, told DailyExpress in an exclusive interview that this is the first time the school has led both in Kibuku District and the entire Bukedi region.

“We are thrilled with this achievement. In the national ranking, Hill View College Bulangira secured position 241 out of 280 registered candidates. The school recorded impressive results, with 700 As, 1,080 Bs, 313 Cs, and 50 Ds,” said Mr. Njaye.

The best-performing student at Hill View College Bulangira was Nasulu Nfuude, who achieved 8 As and a B, while the best girl, Thuwaibah Mwagale, earned 7 As and 2 Bs.

“I attribute this excellent performance to all stakeholders—parents, administration, teachers, and students—who each played their part well. Parents ensured fees were paid, the administration motivated both teaching and non-teaching staff, teachers were dedicated, and students were fully engaged,” Mr Njaye said.

“However, indiscipline and a lack of teacher motivation can hinder performance. At Hill View College Bulangira, we do not entertain indiscipline, as we aim to groom a generation that will be equipped to manage the affairs of this country,” he added, emphasising that the school’s goal now is to maintain this position, which they had anticipated for a long time.

The Executive Director of Hill View College, Mr. Magino Fred, commended the teachers for their dedication to the results, noting that the new lower curriculum for secondary schools required a lot of hands-on commitment compared to the old curriculum, which focused more on memorization.

Adeke Esther Patience, who earned 2 As, 4 Bs, and 3 Cs, along with an A in project work, expressed gratitude to her father, Mr. Okwakol Lawrence, for enrolling her in a school that helped her realize her dream of academic excellence.

“My intention was to score over 6 As, but the untimely payment of fees affected my performance. Every time an administrator entered the class, I knew it was related to school fees. COVID-19 also impacted me during my primary education, as I scored 16 aggregates in PLE at St. Peter’s Junior School, Pallisa. I am grateful to God for everything and continue to pray for my father to find a way to support me and my sister, Ajulong Faith Juliet, who sat her exams at Pallisa Community SS and scored 7 Bs and 2 Cs with a project work result of C1. She plans to pursue PCM,” Adeke shared.

She also expressed gratitude to their aunt, Ms Acam Hellen Rose, who stepped in to assist her father with paying fees for her sister, Ajulong.

Thuwaibah Mwagale, the best-performing girl, shared that despite her strong results, she is unable to attend the schools she believes would best help her pursue her dream of joining university to study surgery.

“As an orphan, I am unable to afford fees, and my mother, Namugwere Joweria, cannot help. I was fortunate that Hill View College provided me with a full bursary for four years, but now I am stuck. I wanted to join St. Mary’s Namagunga, Sheets High, or Our Lady of Africa Mukono,” Mwagale explained.

Her mother, Mrs Namugwere, a widow, said she is unable to do much for her daughter as she has seven other children to care for and can only manage to feed them. “My prayer is for someone to lend a helping hand to this girl,” she said.

Mr Lawrence Okwakol, Adeke and Ajulong’s father expressed his frustration at being unable to meet his daughters’ educational dreams. As a primary school teacher and freelancer, he feels the weight of financial burdens, including loans.

“Every time I bring up the idea of them joining a technical school, my daughters become upset and ask me to help them achieve their dreams. But as a teacher with loans to repay, I cannot afford to stretch myself further,” he said.
