London, United Kingdom: Uganda’s long-distance runner, Jacob Kiplimo, made a stunning debut at the 2025 London Marathon, finishing second in his first-ever 42-kilometer race.
Kiplimo crossed the finish line with a time of 2:03:37, just 1 minute and 10 seconds behind the race winner, Kenya’s Sebastian Sawe, who finished in 2:02:26.
Kiplimo’s performance in the race surprised many, as it was his first marathon. Known for his calm approach and impressive sprinting skills, Kiplimo showed that he has the potential to compete with the best in the world.
He stayed in the lead pack throughout the race, demonstrating both endurance and mental toughness.
The race was highly competitive, with some of the world’s top marathon runners lining up at the starting line.
Kiplimo faced tough competition from experienced athletes, including Kenya’s Eliud Kipchoge, the reigning Olympic champion, and Sawe, who was in exceptional form.
Despite the stiff competition, Kiplimo maintained his position near the front for most of the race.
As the race neared its final stretch, it became clear that Kiplimo and Sawe would be the only two contenders for first place.
With just a few kilometers left, Kiplimo made a strong push to close the gap, but Sawe, maintaining a blistering pace, managed to hold him off and secure the win.
Kiplimo, however, did not give up, crossing the finish line just a minute later with a personal best time.
Although Kiplimo did not win, his second-place finish was still a remarkable achievement. It marked an important milestone in his career, solidifying his status as one of the top long-distance runners in the world.
