Bulambuli, Uganda: Bugisu-based musician Nafuna Esther, popularly known by her stage name Astar 95, has launched a philanthropic campaign aimed at donating 100 pairs of gumboots to students of Tunyi Girls’ Secondary School in Bulambuli District.
The school, located on the rugged slopes of Mt. Elgon, faces harsh weather conditions during the rainy season, making access nearly impossible for both learners and teachers.
Astar 95, who also teaches at the same school, initiated the drive through her official page Astar95 Official, after experiencing firsthand the transportation challenges.
“Help us to keep our students in school during the rainy season!” she appealed in a post. “Many students at Tunyi struggle to access education due to flooded roads and lack of proper footwear. We’re running a campaign to secure 100 pairs of gumboots to ensure they can safely reach school.”

Her message follows a viral video that circulated online showing the artist navigating deep mud on her way to school, a reality for many learners in the area.
“Your contribution can make a real difference in their lives. Let’s work together to support these bright young minds,” she emphasized.
The campaign has since drawn attention from well-wishers across Mbale and Bulambuli, with calls for support growing as the rainy season continues to affect schooling in the highlands.
