ONC’s Kizito Moses elected NRM Finance Secretary for Kampala District Entrepreneurs’ League

Kampala, Uganda: Kampala City Lord Mayor aspirant Kizito Moses Nsubuga Friday secured a significant political boost after being elected unopposed as Secretary for Finance for the National Resistance Movement (NRM) Entrepreneurs League in Kampala Central District.

Kizito, who currently serves as the Office of the National Chairman (ONC) Regional Coordinator for Kampala District, was declared winner on May 23, during internal party mainstream elections held at the district level. His victory solidifies his influence within party ranks and marks a critical step in his campaign to clinch the NRM flag for the Kampala Lord Mayoral race in the 2026 general elections.

Previously a General Secretary at the subcounty level in Kampala Central 1A, Kizito’s elevation to the district leadership of the Entrepreneurs League has automatically made him a full delegate to be part of the forthcoming NRM Delegates Conference set for August this year at Namboole Stadium.

With this new role, Kizito gains voting rights at the party’s top decision-making assembly, giving him a strategic edge in lobbying for the NRM’s endorsement ahead of what is expected to be a heated mayoral contest.

His rising profile within the NRM party structures further fuels growing speculation that he may be the ruling party’s preferred choice to unseat incumbent Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago.

Speaking shortly after his victory, Kizito expressed gratitude to party members for the confidence they had placed in him. He pledged to use his new position to mobilize resources and build stronger linkages between the party’s business wing and grassroots entrepreneurs in Kampala.

“This is not just a win for me, but for all the NRM entrepreneurs and hardworking citizens who believe in organized, pro-development leadership in our capital,” he said.

NRM leaders in Kampala Central described Kizito’s ascendancy as a sign of internal consolidation, with one official noting, “He has proved himself as a mobiliser through the ONC. Now that he is a delegate, he’s just a few steps away from carrying the party flag.”

Political observers to spoke to DailyExpress expressed that Kizito’s unopposed win demonstrates growing consensus around his candidacy, not only within the Entrepreneurs League but also among Kampala’s wider NRM structures that have struggled in previous years to field a unifying figure capable of challenging Lukwago’s decade-long grip on the capital’s top political office.

Kizito’s blend of youth, charisma, and grassroots mobilization experience could offer the NRM a viable alternative in Kampala’s increasingly complex political terrain, where opposition dominance has long been a challenge.

As the countdown to the August Delegates Conference begins, all eyes will be on how Kizito positions himself within the party machinery to win the all-important nomination for the Lord Mayor’s seat, seen as one of the most symbolic political offices in the capital.
