Kampala, Uganda: The International Family Support Centre (IFSC) has launched a nationwide fundraising campaign to expand dental care access to underserved communities across Uganda, citing a severe shortage of services that leaves millions suffering from preventable oral health conditions.

According to Mr. Peter Ghaali, IFSC’s Project Coordinator, the initiative is aimed at tackling deep-rooted inequalities in dental health access, especially in rural regions.

“For many families, visiting a dentist is not an option due to high costs, lack of nearby clinics, and a severe shortage of dental professionals,” Ghaali told DailyExpress in a phone interview. “As a result, tooth decay, gum infections, and severe pain go untreated, leading to serious health complications.”

Ghaali said that in some rural areas, a single dentist may be responsible for tens of thousands of people, forcing many to rely on harmful home remedies or simply endure chronic pain.

“Children are missing school because of unbearable toothaches. Adults can’t work. In some cases, untreated infections escalate into life-threatening conditions,” he said. “This is why we are asking the public to support our campaign, because even a small donation can deliver critical care to someone in need.”

Oral diseases are among the most prevalent noncommunicable diseases worldwide, including dental caries (tooth decay), periodontal disease, tooth loss, oral cancer, oro-dental trauma, and noma. Yet in Uganda, dental health remains one of the most neglected aspects of healthcare.

“Through this campaign, IFSC aims to bring much-needed dental care to vulnerable families. With your support, we can provide life-changing treatment, relief, and education,” Ghaali said.

The organization is calling on well-wishers, institutions, and Ugandans in the diaspora to contribute towards expanding dental outreach efforts. “Join us in changing lives by donating today. No contribution is too small. Together, we can empower the people of Uganda and build a healthier future,” Ghaali appealed.

The International Family Support Centre is a fully registered indigenous non-governmental organization offering support to disadvantaged communities across Uganda through programs in health, education, livelihoods, and advocacy.
