Kampala, Uganda: Igara West Constituency MP aspirant Tugume Boniface Kagambirwe has been officially nominated to contest in the upcoming party primaries for the NRM flag ahead of the 2026 general elections.
Tugume, a known mobiliser and community development advocate, successfully underwent the nomination process on Thursday, June 19, 2025, before the NRM Electoral Commission, led by Dr Tanga Odoi, securing his place on the ballot for the July 16 party primaries.
Speaking shortly after his nomination, Tugume vowed to run an issue-based campaign focused on improving service delivery, youth empowerment, agricultural modernization, and transparency in local governance.
“I am grateful to the people of Igara West and the NRM Electoral Commission for this opportunity. My agenda is to return dignity and responsive leadership to our constituency. We must prioritize youth jobs, agricultural value chains, and accountability in service delivery,” Tugume said.

He further called for unity among NRM members and pledged to respect the party structures throughout the campaign season.
With his roots deeply embedded in grassroots mobilisation and affiliation with the First Son’s Patriotic League of Uganda (PLU), Tugume enters the race with a growing support base from youth groups, farmers’ cooperatives, and local entrepreneurs who view his candidacy as a bridge between leadership and community transformation.
The Igara West seat is currently drawing considerable attention, with several contenders seeking the ruling party’s endorsement. The NRM primaries are slated for July 16, 2025, and are expected to be hotly contested.
