Vipers SC boycott FUFA’s new league format over ignored concerns

Vipers SC, Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa said the club will not take part in the 2025/26 new FUFA league format until harmony is met

Wakiso, Uganda: Reigning Uganda Premier League champions, Vipers Sports Club, Thursday announced it will not participate in the newly introduced FUFA league format, citing lack of consultation, dismissal of concerns, and threats to the integrity of Ugandan football.

In a letter dated October 2, 2025, club president Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa said Vipers had repeatedly raised issues regarding the timing and suitability of the reforms during engagements with FUFA in August and September. However, the club claims no formal response was ever provided.

“Instead of addressing our petitions, FUFA subjected us to ridicule, blackmail, and rebuke on mainstream and social media,” Dr. Mulindwa stated.

The club expressed disappointment that FUFA included them in the 2025/26 season fixtures, even advertising a double-header against Kitara FC at Namboole Stadium this Saturday, without resolving their concerns.

Vipers described the move as “unethical, disrespectful, and a total disregard of the efforts of privately-owned clubs in developing Ugandan football.”

The champions of the now-defunct format confirmed it will neither feature in the scheduled fixture against Kitara FC this Saturday, nor participate in any further engagements under the new format until FUFA formally addresses the issues raised.

The club warned that enforcing the reforms without addressing their concerns poses an existential threat to Vipers and undermines the integrity of the competition.

Dr. Mulindwa, who is the predecessor of Eng Moses Magogo at the helm of FUFA Presidency, affirmed that his club will continue to pursue lawful measures within football regulations to protect its rights as an independent and full FUFA member.

Copies of the objection have been shared with the Minister of Education and Sports, the National Council of Sports, the Uganda Premier League, sponsors, partners, and fans, signaling a broader call for accountability in the sport.
