Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda Management Institute (UMI) has elected Aggrey Akampwera as its new Guild President for the 2025–2026 academic year, marking the start of a new chapter in student leadership at one of Uganda’s premier management training institutions.
The highly anticipated elections, held at UMI’s Kampala Campus, were conducted under the close supervision of the Electoral Commission and lauded for their transparency, order, and student participation.
In an official statement shared on the Institute’s verified social media pages, UMI congratulated the new leadership.
“We congratulate His Excellency Aggrey Akampwera as the new UMI Guild President for the 2025–2026 term, together with his Guild Cabinet,” the Institute announced, describing the outcome as a milestone in strengthening student governance and accountability.
Akampwera Pledges Unity, Dialogue and Service
Speaking shortly after his victory, Guild President Aggrey Akampwera thanked the student community for their trust and promised to lead with transparency, inclusivity, and integrity.
“This marks not the end, but the beginning of a journey to serve UMI and its participants in all our capacities,” Akampwera said. “We are committed to building on the achievements of previous guilds and ensuring that every student feels represented, heard, and supported.”
He emphasized his administration’s focus on promoting dialogue between students and management, enhancing student welfare, and strengthening platforms for professional development and innovation.

The newly elected Guild Cabinet is composed of student leaders from diverse academic programs and professional backgrounds. Their shared agenda centers on academic excellence, student well-being, and collaborative community engagement within the Institute’s inclusive environment.
UMI’s administration hailed the exercise as another testament to the Institute’s culture of participatory governance and responsible leadership training.
“The 2025 elections once again showcased UMI’s commitment to fairness, discipline, and institutional values,” a statement from the Electoral Commission noted, commending candidates for their maturity and respect for the democratic process.
Under Akampwera’s leadership, the Guild Government is expected to prioritize student engagement, innovation, and professional networking through mentorship programs and partnerships with industry professionals.
The new cabinet also pledged close collaboration with management to advance UMI’s mission of producing competent, ethical managers and leaders for Uganda’s public and private sectors.
