Kampala, Uganda: The Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA) has rallied the public to participate in the 8th edition of the Uganda Wildlife Half Marathon, set for March 1, 2026, at Kitante Primary School in Kampala.
The annual event, held ahead of World Wildlife Day on March 3, will run under the theme “Running to Educate Children of the Fallen Rangers.” It seeks to raise funds to support the education of children whose parents lost their lives while protecting Uganda’s wildlife.
According to UWA, proceeds from the marathon will go toward ensuring continued access to quality education for children of rangers who died in the line of duty.
The Executive Director of UWA, Dr James Musinguzi, said the marathon is aimed at mobilising Ugandans, companies and organisations to stand in solidarity with the affected families.
UWA Spokesperson and head of the Marathon Committee, Bashir Hangi, said the funds raised contribute to the Fallen Rangers Education Fund, which supports nearly 150 children from primary to higher institutions of learning until they complete their education and enter the job market.

Through the Wildlife Education Fund, UWA is currently paying school fees for 195 children of fallen rangers.
One of the beneficiaries, Allan Kelechi, who is set to graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from Multitech Business School, said the support has transformed his academic future.
“Since my father passed away, UWA has covered my school fees; I have completed my studies and am now awaiting graduation. I am hopeful that my siblings, who are also supported by the fund, will succeed one day as well,” he said.
